This contract is for the provision of winter maintenance services to include all labour, material and equipment to perform services consisting of snow clearing from gates, egress locations, front entrances, walkways, driveways, sidewalks, parking spaces and culverts, as well as spring clean-up.

Removal of accumulated snow off-site will be on an “as requested” basis and is considered an extra to the Contract. All work, materials and equipment shall be subject to all applicable Federal, Provincial and Municipal legislation, by-laws and regulations. It is the expectation that the Contractor will perform the work in a timely manner and to such a degree that it will not impede or jeopardize the safe access/egress of Regional staff and/or the public to Regional buildings and parking areas.

Durham Region encompasses eight different municipalities in an area of 2,524 km2. It covers a distance of approximately 60 km from its westernmost point bordering Scarborough to its easternmost point bordering the Municipality of Port Hope an approximately 80 km south to north from Lake Ontario to the Township of Brock. The winter maintenance service is provided to over 150 sites geographically spread throughout the Region. The work locations include a wide variety of facilities, such as water and sewage treatment plants, pumping stations, reservoirs, ambulance stations, waste management facilities, childcare centres, administrative buildings, and Durham Region Transit (DRT) facilities. The locations will require an approximate of 500 m2 (6,000 sqft) area to be ploughed and or salted.

The Contractor shall have a minimum of ten (10) years experience managing large scale winter maintenance service contracts of similar size and complexity evidenced in the references provided.

The Contractor shall submit a surety in the amount of $150,000.00 within ten (10) business days of bid acceptance.
